Billing

In the Kootenay’s since 1996, I am deeply rooted in this beautiful place and I plan to live out my days here.  Nothing is more important to me than keeping up my reputation for integrity and honesty!

Sentinel Excavating almost always works by first giving the client a detailed estimate and then proceeding with the work at reasonable and agreed upon hourly rates.  And while of course it doesn’t happen every time, I pride myself on coming in under or very close to my estimates most of the time – if I didn’t do this, I wouldn’t get all the referrals that I do!

Working on an hourly basis versus by quoting ensures a win-win relationship.  It is your built-in guarantee of quality workmanship.  With hard quoting on jobs, someone usually loses, and most often of course it is the homeowner through either poor quality work or over charging for the time the project actually takes.  As the details of the majority of excavation work are usually not inspected and are buried deep under the ground, it’s easy for contractors to save money by cutting corners that will haunt the homeowner years down the road.  That will never be the case with Sentinel Excavating.

On projects taking longer than one day, upon request, I can send a nightly recap of the day so there are never any surprises.  For absentee clients, I can also do nightly updates including pictures, descriptions and even brief video’s.

NOTE: If you are comparing hourly rates on excavation work, be certain you are comparing apples to apples.  You will almost always win by using the biggest machine possible for the job even if the hourly rate and move fees are quite a bit higher on the bigger machine.  My 8 ton, 20,000 lb excavator is definitely not classified as “Mini.” In fact, it is the largest excavator in the “Midi” class – anything bigger is considered a “large” excavator.  An 8MT machine  will move something like 4 times as much as a 4MT machine.  Bigger machines mean more more initial cost, expensive repairs and more fuel – so are accordingly billed at a higher rate.  If your site will benefit from a large excavator (IE 12 metric tons and up) I won’t hesitate to recommend other folks.
